Top 10 Cleveland Ohio Restaurants

Cleveland Girl's Blog

Lucky I live here where Cleveland restaurants never fail to impress. This list is alphabetical because I could barely narrow it down to only 10, let alone rank them. What can I say? I love to eat! (Especially when someone else is cooking and cleaning up.) Anyway, here they are -- my favorite Cleveland restaurants -- with a map at the bottom so you can find them easily. Enjoy!

1.  Casa D'Angelo's Restaurant

Macedonia 330.467.9699
Mentor 440.974.1914

One of the best Italian restaurants in the area.  The bread and salad could be a meal by itself!  The house salad dressing is some special recipe that is lighted tossed with the fresh veggies... and the bread is warm with a crusty outside and soft center.  My favorite meal is the Pasta Arrabiata with Tortellini noodles.  (Wow, I'm getting hungry already.  I'm not sure if I'll make it through all ten of these.)   Okay, let me try to explain this to you... yummy homemade round noodles stuffed with cheese, mixed with italian sausage and chicken, tossed in a red spicy sauce with peppers and onions.  I've tried other meals here and they are all good, but I highly recommend the Pasta Arrabiata for something a little different.

2.  Champp's Americana Sports Bar

Lyndhurst    440.605.9222
Valley View    216.328.0083
Westlake    440.871.0313

Champp's is the perfect sports bar for a sporting town.  It has over 20 big screen TV's in each of its restaurants that can (sorta) be tuned out if you want a more intimate meal. Champp's is known for its laid-back attitude and HUGE portions.  When you go there, you'll eat, and eat, and eat some more... and still have some to take home.  The chili is awesome on a chilly Cleveland day.  The salads are made with the freshest, most interesting combos of ingredients.  You'll love the sandwiches and the big onion rings.  My favorite Champp's meal?  It's a toss up between the Barbecue Ranch Chicken Salad or the Corned Beef Sandwich on dark Russian rye bread.

3.  Fugi's

Macedonia  330.467.5553

Delicious Japanese cuisine at great prices.  From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is inviting, warm and comfortable. After you are seated, the chef entertains you by cooking your food right in front of you. The best part is when he tries to flip shrimp in your mouth. The food is outstanding, the price is reasonable for all the food you receive and the quality of that food. You won't go wrong, dining here!

4. Fat Fish Blue

Downtown Cleveland 216.875.6000

In the mood for some down-home Lousiana-Creole food in a blues atmosphere? Fat Fish Blue is an entertaining experience. With live music five nights a week, you can relax and unwind in this little slice of heaven in Downtown Cleveland Ohio. The cornbread is to die for! Enjoy it with a hearty portion of Chicken and Sausage Jambalaya and top the meal off with a nice, big piece of Sweet Pecan Pie. They have all kinds of dishes there, including burgers, chicken, and seafood. If you're headed downtown for the night, check out Fat Fish Blue and combine entertainment with delicious dining.

5. Hot Sauce Williams

Cleveland 216.391.2230

You can't say you're from Cleveland if you don't get down with Hot Sauce Williams from time to time. Yeah, East Cleveland has been home to one of the best Cleveland restaurants for over 35 years, serving it up hot and good for workers, families, and city visitors. Head into this art-deco restaurant and order big ol' greasy hunk of meaty goodness, slathered in the special recipe barbecue sauce, and wrapped in 2 pieces of Wonderbread. Of course, there's many more choices than that, but come on' -- you know you want the sauce. :-) Try a Polish Boy or a Shoulder sandwich... (don't forget the coleslaw!) and be sure to top it off with a piece of sweet potato pie.

6. J'Alexander's

Lyndhurst 440.449.9131

This may just be my favorite restaurant because I worked there for a few years and I know all of the preparation and care that goes into the food. This restaurant is beautiful and elegant, with superior service and incredible food. The menu boasts dishes that will tantalize your taste buds in every way imaginable. From the appetizers, like Spinach Con Queso with made-fresh daily tortilla chips, to the fabulous entrees like Rattlesnake Pasta or Steak Maui, to the desserts that you won't have room for, but should take home with you like warm carrot cake with buttermilk, Key-lime pie with or classic chocolate cake... you will think you've been transported to a fairy tale when you eat at J's. My mom who moved from Cleveland nine years ago makes it a point to stop at J'Alexanders EVERY time she visits. (Smart Lady )

7. Mariachi Coco's

Northfield 330.467.6655

For authentic Mexican food that's inexpensive and tasty, you have to visit Mariachi Loco's. The service is always friendly and fast. The salsa and chips are so good, but you won't have time to enjoy them because your entrees are served up hot as soon as you start to eat them! This is a nice place to go for lunch because they have great discounted lunch specials. The Fajitas are fantastic, the Burritos are unbelievable, and the other Mexican delights will melt in your mouth. I've had everything on the menu -- twice. Be sure to order a side of queso dip. You'll want to make it at home... and if you're nice to the server, they may tell you how. :-)

8. Mitchell's Fish Market

Woodmere 216.765.3474

Mtichell's Fish Market is located in the Eton Square shopping area. It is a little known treasure in Cleveland Ohio that will have you thinking you're eating at a quaint restaurant off the Coast of the Pacific. The seafood is so fresh. In fact, they change the 80-item menu twice daily because they are fanatic about freshness! If you want some really good seafood, attentive service, and a large wine selection in an elegant dining atmostphere, Mitchell's is a must.

9. Mr. Hero

Go to www.MrHero.com for complete list of locations

When I moved away from Cleveland (what was I thinking?) 10 years ago, I was so sad to find out that the new city didn't have a Mr. Hero! I thought that it was in every city. Apparently, it isn't. Can you imagine growing up without ever enjoying a Romanburger or a Hot Buttered Cheesesteak? Well, people do and I feel bad for them. :-) Mr. Hero is fast food with an edge. Delicious sandwiches, Waffer Fries with cheese, other sides like Beer Battered Cheesy Bites or onion petals... Mr. Hero has to go on the top 10 list.

10. Slyman's

Downtown Cleveland 216.621.3760

The leanest, tastiest, tallest, corn beef sandwiches that you will ever eat. Seriously, this sandwich is so big that you can hardly fit it in your mouth... but that won't stop you from trying. They have other sandwiches there that look good as well, but everyone knows that if you're in downtown Cleveland around breakfast or lunch time, order something with corned beef in it. Slyman's Deli is always busy because these sandwiches are the greatest. You won't mind the wait at all once you *try* to get your mouth around it.
